Goalkeeper Program
The Squamish United Football Club (Squamish United) Goalkeeping Program is a comprehensive training initiative designed to align with the Canada Long Term Player Development Pathway, catering to children aged 8 years and older. Our primary goal is to provide a nurturing environment where goalkeepers of all experience levels can develop and refine their skills to become the best goalkeepers they can be.
Our program is designed to accommodate goalkeepers at all levels of experience. Whether they are just starting or aspiring to play at a competitive or collegiate level, our training curriculum meets their unique needs.
We emphasize the foundational principles of goalkeeping. These include proper positioning, catching techniques, shot-stopping, diving, distribution, and communication. Our goal is to instill a strong fundamental base upon which more advanced techniques can be built.
For those goalkeepers seeking more advanced training, our program offers specialized sessions that delve into higher-level techniques such as aerial play, dealing with crosses, one-on-one situations, and tactical decision-making. This progression prepares young goalkeepers for increased competitiveness in their soccer journey.
The SYSA Goalkeeping Program typically commences at the end of August, aligned with the soccer season. This timing ensures that goalkeepers are equipped with essential skills before the onset of competitive play.
Our dedicated Goalkeeping Staff remains available throughout the season to provide consistent support during team training sessions. Coaches have the opportunity to request the presence of a specialized goalkeeping coach to work with their goalkeepers during training sessions.
The program recognizes that each goalkeeper has unique strengths and areas for improvement. Our approach involves individualized attention to address specific needs and enhance overall performance.
Coaches seeking to involve a goalkeeping coach during their training sessions or those with inquiries related to the Squamish United Goalkeeping Program are encouraged to contact our Technical Director via email at technicaldirector@squamishunited.ca.
At Squamish United, we are committed to nurturing the talents of young goalkeepers and fostering their growth within the framework of the Canada Long Term Player Development Pathway. Through our program’s structured curriculum, supportive staff, and dedication to fundamental and advanced techniques, we strive to equip goalkeepers for success in both their immediate soccer experiences and their future endeavors on more competitive and collegiate stages.
