The pathway from House to Select
The Development Program is built for players aged U11–U13, offering an exciting next step for those moving up from the House and Prospects programs — and a clear pathway toward our Select program (U14–U18).
We focus on the whole player: building soccer ability alongside character, teamwork, and camaraderie.

Inside the Development Program
Season & Phase
Runs September–March, aligned with the Learn to Train phase of Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) pathway.
Qualified Coaches
Our coaches are trained for this stage of physical and mental development and have completed Canada Soccer’s Learn to Train Coaching Program.
League & Format
Affiliated with the BC Coastal Soccer League — 8v8 for U11/12 and 9v9 for U13, on compact pitches. We focus on growth, not scores or standings.
Player Identification
April team-formation / ID sessions place players at the right level, and multiple teams may form per age group. Can’t attend? Individual assessments are available on request.
At this stage we measure success by growth, not the scoreboard. Our goal is to develop well-rounded players — and well-rounded people — with skills and values that last well beyond the field.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are we guaranteed a position for the duration of the season?
Once teams are formed, some player movement from Development to House (or House to Development) may occur. This helps address the varying maturation and technical development rates of children over the year. Any movement after teams are formed is done in consultation with the technical staff, team coaches, and the family to meet the player’s developmental needs — and won’t be a surprise to the families involved.
How much commitment is required for the Development Program?
Development teams train twice a week with one competitive game each weekend.
- Season runs September to mid-March, with a break from mid-December to mid-January.
- Practices are weekdays (Monday–Thursday), depending on the coach’s schedule and availability.
- Teams compete against opponents from the Vancouver region — home games at Brennan Park Turf, away games around the Lower Mainland (usually Vancouver), generally alternating each weekend.
- Playing multiple sports? Talk to your coach about any potential conflicts.
Are there options if we cannot meet the required commitment?
These situations are discussed on a case-by-case basis. Some options are available for families who may have difficulty making a full weekly commitment — please raise any concerns with our technical staff.
Can we play in a higher age group?
If you believe your child qualifies to play with an older age group, please review the Squamish United Playing Up Policy.
What if we cannot attend the ID sessions?
Upon written request to the Squamish United Technical Director, players who missed the ID sessions can ask to train with the team appropriate for their age and be assessed individually.
Where do the registration fees go?
Squamish United is a not-for-profit organization. Registration fees cover:
- Insurance
- Field user fees
- Lights
- Equipment
- Staff coaches
- Referees
- Administration
